Historic Broadmoor Neighborhood

Broadmoor was surveyed by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and the Department of Arkansas Heritage for its potential to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 2019 and 2020 thanks in large part to past BPOA President Anna Swaim. Areas of particular interest for the surveyors included original AC chiller pads, terracotta ridge caps, and the general Mid-Century Modern style architecture found within the neighborhood. Upon completion of the surveys, a context study was created outlining the historic nature of Broadmoor and the important elements that each home possesses to contribute to a potential placement on the NRHP. In February 2020, it was announced that the neighborhood would be recommended for placement on the NRHP.

The recommendation for National Register of Historic places was reviewed locally by the Historic District Commission on July 1st, 2021. It was then reviewed and passed by the State Review Board on August 4, 2021. This determination means that we are currently on the Arkansas Register of Historic Places.

The State Review Board reviewed additional documentation added to the nomination in December 2021 and it was then forwarded on to the National Park Service. It was listed in the NRHP on 1/7/2022.
